A unique exhibit in the Collingsworth County Museum is that of the instruments, tools, and records of the Wellington office of the Texas Department of Transportation. Most of these surveying tools and other instruments have been replaced by the electronic age.
In 1939 the Texas Department of Transportation built two truss bridges across Salt Fork of Red River in Collingsworth County. The bridge on US83 six miles north of Wellington experienced heavy truck traffic and deteriorated beyond repair. It was replaced with a modern bridge in 2012.
However, the truss bridge on State Route 203 east of Wellington was substantially refurbished in 2012-13 and is once again a beautiful and useful structure.
